As soon as you land, the first decision of your trip is how to get to your hotel. Cancún International Airport is different distances from the hotel zone, Playa del Carmen or Tulum depending on where you're staying, and there are several ways to make the trip — each with a different price and comfort level.
Shared van
The most affordable option. You travel alongside other passengers staying at hotels near yours, so there may be one or two stops before reaching your destination. It's a good option if you're on a tight budget and don't mind a slightly longer ride.
Private van
Same comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, but exclusively for your group, with no intermediate stops. It costs more than the shared option, but the ride is direct and you can coordinate the exact departure time based on your flight.
Car rental
Makes sense if you plan to move around a lot during your stay — visiting several destinations, faraway cenotes, or coming and going from the grocery store on your own. It includes basic insurance and unlimited mileage, and you can pick it up directly at the airport. The downside is you'll have to drive somewhere you may not be familiar with, though the area's main roads are well marked.
Luxury transportation
An executive vehicle (SUV or sedan) with a dedicated bilingual driver, ideal if you're traveling for a special occasion — honeymoon, anniversary, business trip — or simply prefer the comfort of a more personalized service, with flight monitoring included in case of delays.
